If You Invested $5,000 in Tron’s TRX During Its Launch

Image
The cryptocurrency market has seen hundreds of new assets every day. While some have managed to brave through the volatile winds of the market, a few others have faded away. There’s another category of altcoins that are nothing but mere scams. But one asset that has stood out is Tron’s TRX. Justin Sun of the TRON Foundation officially launched TRX in September 2017. The project started off as an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum blockchain before moving to its own separate TRON mainnet. This further went live on June 25, 2018, a day that the community frequently refers to as “Independence Day.” Also Read: MicroStrategy Buys 3,459 More Bitcoin Worth $285.8M – Saylor Now Holds 531,644 BTC How Much Has Tron’s TRX Grown Throughout The Years? World Liberty Financial likely used AI to write incorrect AAVE governance post

Image
World Liberty Financial, the Donald Trump-endorsed, and Justin Sun-advised crypto project, appears to be using artificial intelligence (AI) to generate a discussion post on its governance forum.  The post in question is from November and is a discussion about the considerations of the initiative AAVE lending market that World Liberty intended to launch. The post also appears to make false claims. At one point it states that “Aave is not currently available on BNB Chain,” but this isn’t true. Aave launched on BNB Chain almost a year ago in February of 2024. AI models will often output “outdated” information because the majority of the text (tokens) the models were trained on will contain information that was true at the time it was written but isn’t anymore. Additionally, the post asserts that World Liberty Financial “will also be deploying a separate Aave instance on a Layer 2 network,” an idea that hasn’t been appro...

Justin Sun reveals Poloniex issues prevent proof of reserves

Justin Sun has taken to X (formerly Twitter) to explain that “all exchanges in the industry have already implemented proof of reserves (PoR).” He followed up this pronouncement by further emphasizing that “there is only one explanation for why” exchanges have yet to do it — “they are unable to meet the requirements.” This reveal was somewhat surprising as Poloniex, a cryptocurrency exchange owned by Sun, has not implemented PoR, and as such we are forced to conclude that Poloniex is also “unable to meet the requirements.” Poloniex has a page on its website that claims to be a “Proof of Reserves,” but this page only shows how much Tron is on Poloniex, neglecting every single other asset.  Poloniex proof-of-reserves and WBTC backing missing These issues become especially interesting in light of the fact that Sun has recently focused so many of his criticisms on the newly launched cbBTC, Coinbase’s wrapped-Bitc...

Justin Sun has 99 problems and WBTC is two of them

BitGo announced on Friday that it’s transforming its wrapped bitcoin (WBTC) product into a new partnership with BiT Global (or maybe it’s BitGlobal. The company — formerly Bithumb — switches between the names on the English version of its website) and Justin Sun.  Having previously operated the product, BitGo will now be a “minority shareholder” in the new venture. BitGo’s WBTC WBTC is offered on several different chains, with the largest and most important being the assets on Ethereum. There are currently over 154,000 WBTC on Ethereum from this product, worth over $9 billion.  It is also offered on Base, Kava, Osmosis, and Tron, but those products are a tiny fraction of the size of the WBTC on Ethereum.  MakerDAO delegates have reacted to the news about the change by suggesting that the limits for WBTC as collateral be reduced. Mike Belshe, the founder and CEO of BitGo, jumped in to the discussion but was unable to share B...

Justin Sun celebrates meaningless court victory

Justin Sun, founder of the TRON blockchain, numerous stablecoins, owner of Poloniex, and adviser to HTX, has been celebrating a recent Chinese court victory against Chongqing Business Media Group. However, the question is, will the win benefit him outside of the Mainland? The odds are that it absolutely will not. According to a Chongqing court , Chongqing Business Media Group claimed that Sun was under investigation by the FBI and was suspected of insider trading. The court , however, found these claims to be “entirely unsubstantiated,” handing Sun victory on the grounds of defamation. Many of the claims originated in a Verge article from March of 2022 and since its publication, none have been retracted . Protos has previously reported on Sun’s false claims of diplomatic immunity and purported fixation on no moderation policies at BitTorrent. Poloniex WBTC depegs threatening Justin Sun’s empire

Poloniex , a Justin Sun -owned exchange, offers a wrapped bitcoin ( WBTC ) product on Tron that is currently trading at a more than 20% discount on Poloniex .  The WBTC pair traded against BTC on Tron has WBTC worth only 79% of BTC, currently on 0 volume over the last 24 hours. Poloniex has previously refused to disclose to Protos where it holds the bitcoin for this WBTC product and has yet to complete a promised ‘proof-of-reserves.’ Protos has again reached out to Poloniex to attempt to determine where the reserves for this product are held, what the timeline is for the exchange to finish its promised proof-of-reserves, and for clarification on the relationship between Sun-owned Poloniex and Sun-advised HTX. Poloniex proof-of-reserves and WBTC backing missing Read more: Where is Justin Sun ’s money? The last part is important because the WBTC on Tron product offered by Poloniex is a massive portion of the bitcoin held at HTX , formerly Huobi.  The most recent p...

Huobi confirms 20% layoffs, denies insolvency rumors

Key Huobi execs, including Huobi Group CFO Lily Zheng allegedly left the company a few months ago following the new shareholders’ takeover. Huobi cryptocurrency exchange has confirmed plans to lay off 20% of its employees as part of the ongoing restructuring following Justin Sun’s acquisition of the firm. “The planned layoff ratio is about 20%, but it is not implemented now,” a spokesperson for Huobi said in a statement to Cointelegraph on Jan. 6. The representative emphasized that the allegations on Huobi firing as many as 40% employees is a rumor.
