Crypto wallet flaw can steal billions from early adopters, startup claims

Cybersecurity startup Unciphered has unveiled a deep security flaw in crypto wallet s that it stumbled upon, that it says has the potential to steal at least $1 billion from traders and up to $2.1 billion . On Tuesday, Unciphered published information on what it calls Randstorm: a vulnerability in web browser-generated self-custody wallets made between 2011 and 2015. Wallets generated by BitcoinJS and derivative projects can be affected due to the popular JavaScript library borrowing vulnerable open-source software from a Stanford student over a decade ago. BitcoinJS was used by many projects in the early 2010s — some are still active, like BitAddress and Bitco. Several blockchains can also be affected, including Dogecoin, Litecoin, and Zcash, Unnciphered said. Unciphered has apparently alerted millions of affected users to the crypto wallet flaw. It urges them to immediately transfer assets to a wallet made after 2016. Client selfies and data stolen from bankrupt Bit...

Samourai Wallet claims Wasabi Wallet is on ‘psyop’

Wasabi Wallet — a software wallet meant to enhance Bitcoin (BTC) privacy through mixing — accused their main competitor Wasabi of running a “psyop” through their educational project Coinjoins.org. In a lengthy Twitter thread, Samourai claims the educational project is designed to make users forget the recent announcement with chain surveillance firms to create “compliant coinjoin.” Samourai has not answered the request for sources about Wasabi developing a compliant coinjoin by press time. Samourai also pointed to the PlusToken ponzi scheme as bad actors, having purportedly seen their mixing deanonymized “due to broken Wasabi mixing protocol.” You might also like: Plus Token Is Liquidating Thousand of Bitcoin Presuming Exit Scam In its Analysis of the PlustToken scam, OXT Research detected an “abnormally high address reuse among Wasabi mixer outputs” which “led to the discovery of an active Sybil attack on the Wasabi ...

Solana CEO hoses down claims network outages caused by on-chain voting

Solana Labs founder and CEO Anatoly Yakovenko said claims that Solana's network outages were caused by on-chain voting were born out of "pure ignorance." Anatoly Yakovenko, the founder and CEO of Solana Labs has downplayed claims that Solana's network outages were being caused by a high volume of validator messages and its on-chain voting system clogging its consensus layer. While the Solana Foundation confirmed in a Feb. 27 post that the “root cause” of the recent 20-hour network outage is still not clear, the CEO responded to speculation that Solana’s decision to include on-chain votes as transactions is a “massive design flaw” that has led to its many outages. The controversial thread in question was posted by Twitter user DBCryptoX earlier on Feb. 27 days after Solana's 20-hour network outage, suggesting that the high volume of validator messages and on-chain votes were clogging the network. 1/Yesterday # Solana had another 20 hour outage Just one of about a...
