Coinbase Adds AI Altcoin and DeFi Token to Listing Roadmap, Triggering Price Jumps

An artificial intelligence (AI)-based altcoin and a decentralized finance (DeFi) token have soared in price after being added to Coinbase’s listing roadmap. In a post on the social media platform X, Coinbase Assets announces the additions of AI-focused project Aethir (ATH) and DeFi protocol Maple Finance (SYRUP) to its listing roadmap, causing the digital assets to spike in price. Coinbase’s listing roadmap is typically used for transparency and to prevent the front-running of tokens prior to them being listed. Being added to the roadmap means the crypto exchange may add support for the crypto asset soon. News of the addition sent both tokens flying, as ATH went from a low of $0.0318 on March 6th to a peak of $0.0435 just a day later, a gain of about 36.79%. Meanwhile, SYRUP went form a low of $0.137 on March 7th to a peak of $0.193 on March 8th, a rise of 40%. Both assets have since retraced and are valued at $0.0371 and $0.165, respectively. Aethi...

Base token VIRTUAL listed on Kraken — but not Coinbase

Crypto exchange Kraken has opted to list a Solana blockchain version of a Coinbase Base blockchain asset. The irony of Solana offloading the processing of Coinbase’s supposedly ultra-scalable Base blockchain is funny enough on its own — not to mention the further irony of Kraken listing a Coinbase asset before Coinbase itself. The digital asset, Virtuals (VIRTUAL), is a metaverse token that’s best known for its 70% decline in price in the past four weeks . The token claims to be useful for a dizzying array of “metaverse infrastructure” like digital identity, ticketing, cross-world interoperability, NFT ownership, gaming transactions, and social interactions. kraken listing solana virtual before coinbase lists base virtual https://t.co/WivdpaNGKE — ceteris (@ceterispar1bus) February 12, 2025 Base protocol Virtuals chooses… Solana Rather than maintain a dedication to its founding blockchain, Virtuals Protocol decided on January 25...

Image
In what is a monumental moment for the cryptocurrency exchange, Coinbase has officially received regulatory approval to launch crypto services in the UK. Indeed, the platform announced it has been granted a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) registration in the United Kingdom. The move makes Coinbase a registered firm in the region, allowing it to offer both cryptocurrencies and cast to investors. Moreover, the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has proven to be strict with its registration. To this point, only 145 of the applicants have succeeded, in which Coinbase is one of them. Bybit CEO claims Chinese users can bypass restrictions with VPN

Ben Zhou, Bybit’s CEO, said residents of mainland China can access the crypto exchange with a VPN and bypass restrictions from China’s government while stressing that it will not accept the Yuan national currency. The company blocks IP addresses from mainland China but began allowing overseas Chinese users to sign up for the exchange back in June. As reported by the South China Morning Post, Zhou stated that Bybit wouldn’t trade yuan but noted that mainland residents can use a VPN. He claimed the risks of allowing mainland Chinese residents to trade on their platform were “acceptable.” Zhou additionally stated, “What the Chinese government dislikes the most about crypto is that it can facilitate capital outflow, so we won’t touch this red line.” China currently bans cryptocurrency trading, but Hong Kong allows it through licensed crypto exchanges. Zhou also claimed that Bybit is planning to reapply for that Hong Kong license at the start of 2025 and intends to f...

Closing the next 3 4-hour candles above this technical barrier could give the meme coin the necessary foundation to keep rising in the following 24 hours. PEPE might then be able to overcome the negative trend line that has emerged on its charts. Rising above the descending trend line could lead to the Pepe price climbing toward the $0.00002414 resistance level to potentially flip the mark into support. Thereafter, continued pressure from buyers might push...

Coinbase Adds Support for Highly-Anticipated Polygon (MATIC) Re-Brand Token Polygon Ecosystem Token (POL)

Top US-based crypto exchange Coinbase is adding support for the Polygon’s (MATIC) highly anticipated rebrand to the Polygon Ecosystem Token (POL). In a new announcement, Coinbase Assets says it’s adding POL to its suite of products with an experimental label, meaning it could display high price volatility or relatively low trading volume. Last month, Coinbase announced that it added the token to its listing roadmap, which was created in 2022 for transparency and to stifle the front-running of digital assets. MATIC’s rebranding to POL was first proposed last July as a way to boost the network’s usage and growth. About a month later, Sandeep Nailwal, the founder of Polygon Labs, said that the transition was part of a shift toward greater interoperability. As stated by Nailwal at the time, “POL delivers the benefits of multi-chain staking without the added risks of restaking. With the Polygon 2.0 proposal, the Polygon Ecosystem will ex...

Brian Armstrong revealed Binance sold all its USDC in Coinbase earnings call

During Coinbase ’s Q2 earnings call on Thursday, chief and founder Brian Armstrong stammered a reply to a question about stablecoin USDC , unexpectedly revealing that its market cap had gone up after Binance sold all its holdings. “USDC market cap is up after Binance pulled out,” Armstrong stuttered out during Coinbase’s earnings call. The unexpected answer seemed to imply that crypto exchange Binance was a holder of Circle and that USDC is safer now that Binance no longer holds the stablecoin. Coinbase is a member of the consortium that owns USDC. It’s the preferred stablecoin for the exchange’s operations. However, USDC’s market cap is shrinking fast, dropping from $44.5 billion at the start of this year to just $26 billion at press time. Earlier this year, the Federal Deposit Insurance Agency had to take over Circle’s main banks, namely Signature and Silicon Valley Bank, to prevent a bank run. This controversial move effectively saved USDC. Coinba...

Twitter user unveils possible mastermind behind BALD rug pull

A Twitter user has shared his suspicion that a past associate could be the mysterious figure behind the recent BALD meme coin rug pull. On Aug. 3, a Twitter user by the name of Mike McDonald claimed that an address through which he received payment after winning a $50,000 bet in 2021 might be linked to the BALD meme coin deployer who is suspected of pulling 1,034 Ethereum (ETH) in liquidity a couple of days after the coin’s value skyrocketed by an incredible 40,000%. According to McDonald, he placed a bet with a Twitter account named Milkyway (@milkyway16eth) on the outcome of the 2021 chess world championship, winning $50,000 in the process. Milkyway settled the bet using an address that crypto sleuth ZachXBT has linked to the recent BALD rug pull. BALD deployer is potentially revealed here. GMX Exchange Possibly Moving to Coinbase's 'Base' Blockchain

The GMX community has spoken in favor of implementing the protocol on Coinbase’s (COIN) recently announced layer 2 blockchain, BASE. GMX provides spot and futures trading and has a total value locked (TVL) of $582 million. According to Defillama, it is the largest DeFi protocol on Arbitrum. Although most were in favor of moving to Coinbase, others were concerned. Some are worried whether the project’s unknown creators would need to provide Coinbase with identification documents. Unlike the recently airdropped Arbitrum token, Base is a layer-2 blockchain that was created using Optimism’s OP stack. It will feed into the Ethereum mainnet and lacks a native token. Advantages of GMX moving to Coinbase Coinbase hopes to hasten the development of its on-chain products with the introduction of the BASE token. The Coinbase wallet is one of the top products. It is a self-custody wallet that is tightly integrated into the ecosystem of the platform. The company seeks to boost its own investm...
