Revolut faces $3M ransom demand after data breach, report

Attackers claiming responsibility for Revolut’s data breach say they want $3 million in Monero from the banking firm, or they’ll sell the stolen customer data to other criminals. That’s according to the Financial Times , which reports that the group, going by the name “iamnotavillain,” is making its demands for the first time.  Its ransom website was launched this week, but negotiations haven’t yet begun with Revolut. Quip Network finds a new use for quantum computers on blockchain

Postquant Labs, the company behind decentralized quantum computer marketplace Quip Network, has announced Quantum Echoes, a digital collectible collection generated using verifiable measurements from gate-based quantum hardware. Consisting of Quantum Forged Tokens, or QFTs for short, the collection is designed to show how quantum processors can provide verifiable randomness for onchain applications, the company told Finbold on Thursday, September 10. Accordingly, the main goal of the update is to bring a previously specialized computing capability to a consumer-oriented blockchain product. This is achieved via gate-based quantum computers, which introduce verifiable quantum randomness into generative art.  “We’ve spent the last hundred years telling people that quantum is this spooky and mysterious thing that even the smartest people in the world don’t understand. With Quantum Echoes, we are making multimillion-dollar quantum hardware tangible for everyone, provin...

Effective altruism is back with an 'anti AI' campaign

An effective altruism-linked organization, as of last month, is paying $2,000 in weekly compensation for an ostensibly grassroots anti-AI media campaign.  Irreplaceable, which employs a campaign strategist who also works for the effective altruism-funded Center for AI Safety, supports protests against AI as a way to advocate for regulations that could benefit the effective altruism agenda. “What’s missing is coordinated action that forces the government to respond,” it claimed. It’s currently recruiting student protest leaders for an anti-AI uprising in October. They’ll help to coordinate walkouts at more than 100 colleges to demand new regulations to affect the AI industry.
